Art Creation & Reflection (Mont Sainte-Victoire by Paul Cezanne)

Art Creation & Reflection ('The impression sunrise' by Claude Monet)

Art can be inspired by different things ranging from artists' feelings, experiences, and other works. However, it can be challenging to notice the connection between work by different artists without taking a closer look. According to the research, artists utilize various techniques and methods to hide the main message and inspiration behind the artwork, making it harder to notice the connections (NANNICELLI, 2017). The piece of art that has inspired the art creation is the Mont Sainte-Victoire by Paul Cezanne. The reflection analyzes both art pieces by comparing the special connection between how one painting helped create a similar but different artwork.

Inspiration Piece

Figure1- Mont Sainte-Victoire by artist Paul Cezanne

The painting is called “Mont Sainte-Victoire” and it presented in 1886 and was completed in 1887 by artist Paul Cezanne. It presents a view of the artists of Cezanne's hometown Aix, France, which had an idea of that same mountain that has been his muse for most of his landscape creations. It already possessed a symbolic appeal in the region, linked to an ancient Roman victory and several early Christian festivals. Based on the research, there have been stories about how that mountain was home to gods, making them sacred. Moreover, the painting presents a sense of calmness through the different green, yellow, blue hues. The view of nature makes someone feel happy and peaceful because it shows there is life all around us that offers a significant aspect of hope in this world.

My Art Piece

Figure 2- The view of nature on the hills

The painting by Cezanne inspired me to create a similar piece that has a similar message. The work of art contains hills, a tree, and a flower. The image includes hills with smaller ones in the back to create the illusion that the mountains go on for miles. I used colored pencils and a black marker to create distinct lines that separated the hills and the flowers for this drawing. Similarly, I utilized different shades of green to color in hills similar to Cezanne's landscape. I colored the petals blue for the flowers, and the middle color is red. The flowers signify the sky, the petals being the sky, and then the middle is the sun.

Connections

Both pieces of art are thematically connected through the beauty of nature, representing the good things in the world happiness, peace, and hope. Although they are both landscapes, there is still a difference in the precision of the two art pieces' lines, shapes, and texture. Both show different significant features of nature like hills, mountains, trees, and flowers that create beauty. According to the research, Cezanne is one of the most famous artists of his time, and moving forward, he inspired many artists like Pablo Picasso. Cezanne also used a real-life landscape inspiration that gave his creation a more powerful meaning than mine. However, I have given this simple drawing a powerful sense for the viewer to experience the same calmness I felt looking at the “Mont Sainte-Victoire”.
